Meet the Founder

Thirty years of figuring out what actually works in marketing.

I did not build Human at the Helm™ because I thought it was a good idea. I built it because I kept seeing the same problem and I finally had the tools to solve it at scale.

The problem: most marketing teams are working incredibly hard in the wrong direction. Not because they lack talent or effort. Because nobody ever stopped to diagnose whether the foundation was solid before building on top of it.

I have spent 30 years fixing that problem, one client at a time. The Human at the Helm platform is how I fix it faster, more consistently, and for more organizations than I could ever reach on my own.

The Career Behind the Platform​

I started in ski resort marketing at Sugarbush, learning how to build demand for something people do not need but desperately want. That tension between rational marketing and emotional truth has shaped everything I have done since.

I purchased HMC Advertising in Vermont and spent the next several years growing the firm from $3M to $5M in revenue while building a team of 15. We came through the 2008 recession by staying close to our clients and focusing on the problems that actually mattered.

At Pond King, I grew their direct-to-consumer business from a small online channel into a seven-figure revenue stream, increasing conversion rates by more than 300%. The approach was the same one I use everywhere: diagnose the alignment problem before touching the execution.

As a fractional CMO, I have worked inside enough marketing organizations to know that the same five misalignments show up, in different combinations, in almost every one of them. That is what the Human at the Helm Alignment Score™ measures.

Why I Started Using AI in Marketing in 2022

I started integrating AI into my client work in 2022, not because it was trendy, but because I could see what it would eventually make possible.

The potential was not just in content generation or research speed. It was in the diagnostic work itself: the ability to evaluate a marketing organization’s assets, patterns, and gaps at a depth and speed that no human consultant could match alone.

What Is EPIC Leadership™?

EPIC Leadership™ is a human-centered leadership framework built on four principles: Empathy, Predictability, Integrity, and Curiosity. I developed it through years of equine-assisted leadership work, where I learned that the mechanics of leadership can be taught, but timing and feel, knowing when to act, when to wait, and how to read the room, require lived experience that no system can replicate.

Those four principles still guide how I work with every client. They are why I believe AI should amplify human leadership, not replace it. They are also why Human at the Helm™ keeps humans at the center of every platform-driven process.
